What Is Eurail and Interrail?
Eurail and Interrail are train pass providers in Europe created by the same company in 1959. They give individuals the chance to buy a one-time ticket to use several European train lines, making European rail travel accessible and simple to many. Today, they provide connection between 33 European countries by rail and have become the perfect provider for affordable and easy travel.
When deciding which pass is best for your travels, be sure to take this information into consideration prior to your purchase:
Do I Purchase A Eurail or Interrail Pass?
The only difference you need to know prior to your purchase of a Eurail or Interrail pass:
Eurail passes can only be used by non-European citizens or non-European residents.
Interrail passes are available to European citizens or European residents only.
If you have more than one passport or permanent residency (dual citizenship), the Pass you use will be based on where you live. Eurail and Interrail websites both state:
” 1. If you have 2 European passports, use the passport/ID of the country you live in to order your Interrail Pass.
2. If you have a European passport and a non-European passport, use the passport/ID of the country you live in. If you live in Europe, order an Interrail Pass. If you live outside of Europe, order a Eurail Pass from Eurail.com.
3. If you have a European passport and a non-European passport but you live in a different European country, you can travel with either passport/ID, but your country of residence is the country you live in. Order an Interrail Pass and bring an official residency card or document with you along with your passport/ID. “

Both passes offer the same travel options. You can travel to the same destinations as you would with one or the other. Your country of residence is simply the only difference you need to take into consideration when purchasing your pass.

Types of Passes
1st Class or 2nd Class Passes: For all passes, you can choose the option of a 1st class pass or 2nd class pass. In my opinion, 1st class passes are worth the little extra fee. On most trains 1st class includes wider seats, less crowds, wifi, refreshments, and power supply while on the train in addition to lounge access at some stations while waiting for your next train. With that said 2nd class is still a great option, especially if you’re looking to meet new people on the same journey! Further, you will choose your option for a pass:
Eurail/Interrail Global Pass: Choose from a variety of global passes depending on how many days you want to travel within a certain amount of months. 1st class passes vary from USD$263-965 and 2nd class passes vary from USD$208-$761.

Eurail/Interrail One-Country Pass: With this pass, choose a specific country you would like to travel within and pick from 1-8 travel days within 1 month. 1st class passes vary from USD$110-$368 and 2nd class passes vary from USD$87-$290.

Are The Passes Worth It?
YES. Under a couple of conditions. In my opinion, Eurail and Interrail passes are worth it if you have the time to travel within or between countries. Additionally, it is definitely cheaper to purchase a global pass if you are planning on going to several countries within Europe rather than purchasing your tickets directly through the rail companies.
One of my favourite reasons for using a Eurail or Interrail pass is the fact that you won’t need to travel outside of main cities to head to the middle of nowhere to get to an airport. I think a train is the best way to see absolutely everything that Europe has to offer and they can take you right into the city centres where you could easily walk from the train station to your hotel, Airbnb, or hostel.
Can You Trust This Pass For Your Travels?
YES. These passes are legitimate if purchased directly from the Eurail and Interrail websites. If purchasing from another website or company, ensure they have creditable business with Eurrail and Interrail to maintain your safety and ensure your travels are seamless and legitimate.
