5 Best Activities To Do While At The Grand Canyon.

  1. Watch the Sunrise.
  2. Hike Into the Canyon.
  3. Ride a Mule into the Canyon.
  4. Horseshoe Bend.
  5. Drive to the Viewpoints.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most famous landmarks in the United States, and for good reason. It is a place like no other. You can imagine what it would look like at first sight, but there are no words, images, or videos that even begin to do it justice. At first sight, your thoughts will disappear as your mind attempts to comprehend what you’re seeing. The length: as far as the eye can see. The depth: immeasurable. The colours: indescribable. This is one place that NEEDS to be on your bucket list.

The Grand Canyon reminds you how large the world is, how small you are, and how incredible it is to be alive.

Here are 5 things you have to do while at the Grand Canyon in Arizona, United States of America:

1. Watch The Sunrise.

Grand Canyon Village, South Rim

I promise, you will not regret it. Even if you are not one for early mornings or even sunrises for that matter; this is one that you will get lost in as all of what seem to be your problems drift away in its beauty. It may be cold when you first arrive but the feeling you get as the sun rises and the feeling of the warmth slowly rising. Incredible! Not to mention, the most amazing part of the colour change of the rocks within the vast depth of the Canyon.

*Be sure to check the weather and ensure the skies will be clear. (We tried the day before and it was cloudy. As with any sunrise, it didn’t allow for much to see!)

2. Hike into the Canyon via Bright Angel Hiking Trail.

Bright Angel Trail, South Rim

Located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the trail is a must if you want to experience all the Canyon has to offer. The views along the way differ completely from those up top. This trail is unique in that there are three checkpoints along the trail making it accessible for all experience levels. I would suggest getting an early start as it gets extremely hot as the sun rises, as well as bring plenty of water and gatorade; it will quite literally be a life safer!

3. Ride a Mule into the Canyon.

If hiking is not your thing, riding a mule into the Canyon is a great alternative. This way you can take in all the views with a new, fun experience! My recommendation is Grand Canyon Park Lodges: World Famous Mule Rides.

4. Marvel at the Views of Horseshoe Bend.

Horseshoe Bend, East Rim

Located on the East Rim of the Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend is once again another must see and a beautiful photo opportunity. Formed over time by water erosion, it is encompassed by the Colorado River and can be accessed by car. Simply beautiful to marvel at!

5. Drive to the Different Viewpoints.

Desert View Drive, South Rim

Get away from the crowds, get in a car, and drive along the canyon to see it from all angles and viewpoints. If starting in Grand Canyon Village, you can drive east along Desert View Drive, following the canyon rim and jumping out to marvel at views that the majority don’t get to experience. (I would suggest doing this the day after your hike or mule ride, it makes for a laid back day!)
